Healthcare Industry Update – 17th November 2021

The importance of our worldwide healthcare sector has been magnified in recent years as we continue the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the sector also faces mounting pressures to address labour shortages while navigating an ever-changing healthcare situation.

Here are the latest Healthcare industry updates:

  • Healthcare staff who do not work on the frontline and were some of the initial receivers of the vaccine will be offered booster jabs as the latest phase of vaccinations begins.
  • UCC Professor of Immunovirology, Liam Fanning has called on Ireland to begin rolling out the Covid booster vaccine to the over 40 age group to reduce transmission.
  • According to research by Lahinch HRLocker, Healthcare workers are amongst the most likely profession to suffer from ‘burnout’ as excessive workloads have resulted in 52% of workers experiencing symptoms.
  • Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Tony Holohan has stated that any additional restrictive measures to ‘break the circuit’ are not under consideration at this time.
  • Minister for Health Stephen Donelly has stated that the Covid-19 pandemic cannot be continuously used as an excuse for the Irish healthcare system as hospitals continue to be overcrowded, with no clear Winter Plan for 2022.
