Healthcare Industry Update – 2nd February 2022

The importance of our worldwide healthcare sector has been magnified in recent years as we continue the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the sector also faces mounting pressures to address labour shortages while navigating an ever-changing healthcare situation. This exponential growth in healthcare activity has seen the demand for healthcare workers rise dramatically on a global scale.

Our previous healthcare industry update discussed how HSE Chief Executive, Paul Reid, emphasized the strain that the Irish healthcare system is currently under, how mandatory vaccination should be brought into discussion according to leading immunology expert, Liam Fanning, and Ireland has reached its landmark 1 millionth Covid-19 case since the pandemic began almost 2 years ago.

Here are the latest Healthcare Industry Updates:

  • Following almost 2 years of one of the strictest Covid-19 restrictions regimes, Ireland has dropped the vast majority of its restrictions following advice from its national public health advisory group, NPHET.
  • Ireland plans to offer its frontline healthcare workers a once-off bonus payment of €1,000 as a thank you for their hard work throughout the pandemic, with payment expected in March or April.
  • Ireland has a new first-of-its-kind menopause clinic located in the National Maternity Hospital with women who are experiencing difficulties urged to contact the clinic or their GP.
  • The HSE has reported the lowest level of Covid-19 patients in ICU in almost 3 months as Ireland begins to witness light at the end of the tunnel.
  • Following on from recent allegations of mispractices in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (Camhs) in Kerry, Tánaiste, Leo Varadkar has stated all those harmed will be compensated.
