Social Care workers work within the Social Care Sector providing professional care to vulnerable individuals and groups of all ages who experience marginalisation, disadvantage or special needs. Becoming a Social Care Worker in Ireland
To become a Social Care worker in Ireland you must have a minimum of QQI Level 7 in Social Care/Healthcare Subject. Some of these include Psychology, Nursing, Social Sciences, Early Childhood Learning, Disability and Addiction/Homeless Studies.
Do I Need to Have Social Care Experience?
Most services do require post qualification experience however, work experience gained during college can be sufficient and will be taken on board. That is where working temporary with AA Euro Healthcare, we can assist you with gaining the relevant experience during and post qualification. Candidates who have no post qualification experience can still apply for Social Care posts as most clients provide induction training into their services.
What Skills Do I Need to be a Social Care Worker?
In addition to your Social Care or equivalent qualification, employees are required to have additional certification in MAPA/TCI, Patient Moving & Handling, First Aid, Basic CPR, Infection Control and Childrens’ First. Information on these courses can be provided by your AA Euro Healthcare Recruitment Representative.
Career Progression
The natural career progression for a Social Care Worker is through years’ experience. Social Care Workers progress to Team Leader, Deputy Managers and on completion of Healthcare Management Diploma – Manager.
